Six decapitated human heads discovered beside a road in Tlaxcala, Mexico.

In a series of disturbing incidents, several regions in central Mexico have recently witnessed gruesome discoveries of human remains.

The small town of Chilapa, located in the southern state of Guerrero, was the scene of a chilling discovery in March 2022. Six heads and other body parts were found on the roof of a car parked on the main street.

A similar discovery was made on a road connecting Puebla and Tlaxcala, central Mexico, where six human heads were found. The Tlaxcala Prosecutor's Office confirmed these remains belonged to men.

These extreme acts of violence are rare in this region, according to local prosecutors. However, they are more common in northern states and along the Pacific coast, where drug cartels operate.

Local media reported a flyer was found at the gruesome scene in Tlaxcala, blaming the violence on a turf war between fuel theft gangs.

Another head and human remains were found in the western city of Colima, with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) being suspected of responsibility. The CJNG has significant influence and operational presence in these regions.

Both Puebla and Tlaxcala serve as bases for drug and fuel trafficking gangs, contributing to the ongoing drug-related violence in Mexico.

Sadly, this violence is not new to Mexico. Since the government deployed federal troops to confront the country's powerful drug cartels in 2006, approximately 480,000 people have died due to drug-related violence. Another 130,000 people are missing.

In a separate incident on June 30, authorities found 20 bodies along a road in the northwestern state of Sinaloa, five of which were headless.

These discoveries serve as a stark reminder of the ongoing violence in Mexico and the need for continued efforts to combat drug-related crimes. An investigation into the crimes in Tlaxcala and Colima is currently ongoing.
