Situation in Pokrovsk, as reported by the Ukraine's General Staff, appears to be stabilized now.

In the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk, the 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard has been playing a pivotal role in defending against Russian advances near Dobropillia and Pokrovsk. The corps, established in April 2025, has been instrumental in stabilizing the frontline and even regaining territory over the past month.

According to Andriy Kowalov, the spokesman of the General Staff, several prisoners were taken during the operation. The Russian forces had been attempting breakthroughs, including infiltrations into Ukrainian defensive lines, but the Azov Corps' actions to block and contain enemy advances have proven effective.

The Azov Corps, a composite formation consolidating five brigades under one command, was tasked in August 2025 with containing Russian advances in this area. It aims to enhance the operational effectiveness and flexibility of Ukraine’s forces on critical fronts, including the Pokrovsk sector near Dobropillia.

Notably, the Azov Corps achieved a tactical encirclement of 800 Russian troops following a breakthrough on an 18-kilometer front, showcasing their counteroffensive capabilities. Amidst ongoing battles, the Azov Corps has also been involved in clearing multiple settlements in Donetsk, reversing Russian advances in some areas near Pokrovsk and Dobropillia.

The Ukrainian military command deployed reserves to the area, including the National Guard corps "Asov". The situation at Dobropillia and Pokrovsk, which had seen Russian units advancing more than ten kilometers north-east of Pokrovsk towards Dobropillia, according to military observers, is reportedly stabilizing.

However, the cities of Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad are under potential risk of encirclement by Russian troops. A few days after the deployment of the III Storm Brigade "Asov", the city of Avdiivka fell to Russian forces.

The Azov Corps' involvement marks a shift in Ukrainian operational command and reflects increased emphasis on coordinated, corps-level defense against Russian advances. While the threat of encirclement and difficulty holding lines remains, Azov has contributed significantly to stabilizing the front and regaining territory over August 2025.

It is important to note that Ukraine has been defending against a Russian invasion for more than three years. In February 2024, units of the then III Storm Brigade "Asov" were deployed to the city of Avdiivka to prevent its capture by Russian forces. Media reports spoke of a breakthrough at the front, but the Azov Corps' efforts have helped to contain the situation.

The news agency Interfax-Ukraine reported this information. As the conflict continues, the Azov Corps' performance serves as a testament to the resilience and determination of Ukraine's military in the face of adversity.

  1. Despite ongoing war-and-conflicts, the Azov Corps' service in the Pokrovsk sector near Dobropillia has shown significant improvement in operational effectiveness and flexibility, contributing to the stabilization of the frontline and the regaining of territory.
  2. Amidst the intense politics surrounding the Ukrainian-Russian border conflicts, the Azov Corps' involvement in clearance operations and tactical encirclements in Donetsk region demonstrates their commitment to general news reporting of the military's efforts in defending against Russian advances.
