Sisodia's Potential Move to Rajya Sabha: Yogi and Rajnath in Competition Over Territory
In the political landscape of August 2025, there's been much discussion about Arvind Kejriwal potentially joining the Rajya Sabha. However, as of now, the former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu's news of restarting his luncheon gatherings is a more tangible development.
The speculation around Kejriwal's move to the Rajya Sabha began earlier this year when a vacancy arose in the Rajya Sabha from Punjab. Many believed that Kejriwal might contest that seat. Yet, after the by-election related to that vacancy, Kejriwal publicly stated that he would not be going to the Rajya Sabha at that time. As of now, there is no official confirmation that he has decided or taken steps to make this move.
The possibility of Kejriwal becoming a Rajya Sabha member remains, given his capabilities and the strategic benefit it might provide for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Some political analysts consider that Kejriwal would be an asset in the Rajya Sabha given his skills, but the political maneuvering in Punjab and resistance from opponents may make the transition complex.
In the meantime, no clear successor or replacement in AAP leadership has been identified in public sources if Kejriwal does make the move. Kejriwal remains the supremo and central figure of the party, and no official announcement or credible reports suggest a candidate poised to replace him.
Elsewhere in the political sphere, the RJD was unwilling to accept Pappu Yadav as the Opposition alliance's joint candidate from Purnea in last year's general election. The Congress party, on the other hand, has launched a "Naukri do, migration roko yatra" in Bihar.
In Uttar Pradesh, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh is trying to retrieve lost ground for the BJP. A group of senior leaders, drawn both from the BJP and the RSS, may be set up to ensure that the decisions taken by the chief ministers are aligned with the party's worldview and the Central government's policies.
The BJP has appointed new chief ministers in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana. Mohan Yadav, Bhajan Lal Sharma, and Nayab Singh Saini are the new faces leading these states. In Delhi, Rekha Gupta is the new Delhi chief minister appointed by the BJP.
Meanwhile, within the AAP, Manish Sisodia, a former Delhi deputy chief minister and close confidant of Arvind Kejriwal, is likely to be nominated for a Rajya Sabha seat if Sanjeev Arora wins the Ludhiana West assembly by-election. Sisodia is privy to the AAP's internal confidential matters.
Interestingly, the RJD had refused to accommodate Kanhaiya Kumar when he contested from Begusarai in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. However, Kumar, a youth leader in the Congress party, has been given charge of the "Naukri do, migration roko yatra".
Lastly, Swati Maliwal, a former colleague of Arvind Kejriwal, has been on the warpath against him and has joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party in running an aggressive campaign against him. The political landscape continues to evolve, and these developments are sure to shape the political discourse in the coming days.
