The football star, candidly admitting he never envisioned earning such an honor, said, "I'm incredibly proud, and it's a very emotional moment for me that I can share with my family."

Beckham, recognized as a 'Knight Bachelor'—a knighthood without belonging to an order—for his dedicated service to the UK, is part of the 'King's Birthday Honours' list. This list showcases the royal honors bestowed in celebration of King Charles III's birthday this Saturday. With this acknowledgment, the iconic Three Lions captain can now be addressed as Sir David Beckham.

Victoria Beckham's New Title: 'Lady Beckham'

David Beckham's remarkable career is dotted with numerous titles. One of his most impressive victories occurred in 1999, when he clinched the Champions League final with Manchester United against Bayern Munich. In 2003, Beckham was already honored as an 'Officer of the Order of the British Empire' (OBE).

"Playing for my country and being captain was the greatest privilege of my career and a childhood dream come true," David Beckham shared. Becoming the spouse of the renowned designer and former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham (51), will bestow her with the title 'Lady Beckham'.

Victoria Beckham showered her husband with praise on Instagram, writing, "You’ve always been my knight in shining armor, but now it's official." She acknowledged his unwavering dedication to his homeland, work, passion, and especially his family. Her heartfelt tribute concluded, "But above all, I'm so proud that you're mine. I love you so much xxxx."

Honoring Excellence: The Breadth of Recipients

Although rumors swirled that Beckham was nearly knighted in 2014 and was unexpectedly overlooked, this prestigious honor is finally his. David Beckham, a model, entrepreneur, football club owner, and admirer of the Royal Family, is one of 1,215 individuals celebrated this year for their unique contributions to their respective fields. These annual accolades, traditionally gifted at the New Year, regularly honor an array of individuals—including actors, sports figures, and public servants.

The ceremony for the presentation of knighthoods or medals usually transpires months later and is graced by a member of the Royal Family in one of their residences.

The Brits embrace their awards, affectionately called "Gongs"

Apart from David Beckham, notable figures such as actor Gary Oldman (67) and Roger Daltrey (81), frontman of The Who, are also on track to receive knighthoods. Oldman won an Oscar for portraying British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour," and captivated audiences as Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula."

The term "gongs," a playful moniker for these twice-yearly awards, has gained popularity in the UK. In truth, there are various tiers of awards in the UK, including the 'Knight Bachelor' and higher orders like 'Knight Commander.' These esteemed recognitions serve as a testament to the country's respect for outstanding achievement and personal integrity.

Besides Oldman and Daltrey, two 18-year-old darts champions, Luke Littler and his rival Luke Humphries (30), will join the ranks of distinguished Britons, being bestowed the title 'Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire' (MBE) for their service to darts.

Despite the rumors, the ceremony for Sir David Beckham's knighthood will mark the closure of a chapter in entertainment and sports, recognizing his exceptional service to the UK alongside celebrities, sports figures, and public servants. The annual accolades, affectionately referred to as "Gongs," will also honor individuals like actor Gary Oldman and Roger Daltrey, further reflecting the breadth of awards given for outstanding personal achievements.
