Rapper Sean Kingston, born Kisean Paul Anderson, was sentenced to three and a half years in prison in August 2025 for his role in a $1 million fraud scheme. The sentencing took place in front of U.S. Judge David Leibowitz in a South Florida courtroom.

Kingston's legal troubles began in May 2024, when a SWAT team raided his rented mansion in suburban Fort Lauderdale. His mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, was taken into custody during the raid, while Kingston was arrested at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California's Mojave Desert, where he was performing.

The scheme involved Kingston and his mother conspiring to obtain high-end items without paying for them. They arranged purchases of luxury merchandise, such as a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade SUV, expensive watches, jewelry, and a large 19-foot wall-sized LED TV, and then falsely claimed to have made wire payments. Investigators found that the wire payments were never completed, and Kingston and Turner sent fake wire transfer receipts to sellers as proof of payment. A key piece of evidence was a text message from Kingston telling his mother to create a fake receipt to make it appear the transfer was forthcoming.

Both Kingston and Turner were convicted in March 2025 of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud. Kingston's attorney had requested a later date for self-surrender due to health issues, but the judge ordered immediate custody. During the sentencing, Kingston apologised to the judge and expressed learning from his actions.

Kingston gained fame at age 17 with the 2007 hit "Beautiful Girls" and went on to release other hits such as "Take You There" in 2007 and "Fire Burning" in 2009. However, his legal troubles have overshadowed his musical career. His mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, was also convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.
