Singer Sean Kingston received a 3.5-year jail term for perpetrating a ₹8.6 crore bank fraud, involving luxury merchandise.

Singer-rapper Sean Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was sentenced to 3.5 years in federal prison on August 15, 2025, for his involvement in a $1 million fraud scheme targeting luxury goods sellers. His mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, was also convicted and received a longer sentence of five years.

The scheme, which took place between April 2023 and March 2024, saw Kingston using social media to arrange purchases of expensive merchandise such as a bulletproof Escalade, luxury watches, and a 19-foot LED television. He invited sellers to his Florida homes, promising to promote their products on his social media platforms. However, when it was time to pay, Kingston or his mother sent fake wire receipts as proof of payment but did not clear the funds.

The fraud was uncovered after a SWAT raid on Kingston’s rented mansion in Fort Lauderdale in May 2024. His mother was arrested at the mansion, while Kingston was apprehended at an Army training base in California where he was performing.

At sentencing, U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz noted Kingston’s acceptance of responsibility and that he did not lie during proceedings, which contributed to a lighter sentence than his mother’s. Prosecutors had sought five years for Kingston, seeking parity with his mother, but the judge found a shorter prison term fitting. Kingston apologized in court and said he had learned from his actions.

Kingston’s defense highlighted that most restitution had been repaid even before charges were filed and emphasized his positive role in the community, which influenced sentencing. His sister expressed support, calling the sentence lower than guidelines and acknowledging his good character.

The Travis Scott India Tour 2025 was announced, with a show in Mumbai being part of the tour. However, it remains to be seen if Kingston will be able to perform, given his incarceration. Kingston rose to international fame at 17 with his 2007 chartbuster "Beautiful Girls."
