Singer Kelly Clarkson resumes her role on The Voice after a brief hiatus following the demise of her former partner Brandon Blackstock.

Kelly Clarkson is back as a coach on "The Voice" following the tragic death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock earlier this month. The news of Blackstock's death came hours after Clarkson postponed the remaining dates on her Las Vegas residency due to his illness.

Clarkson had missed one taping earlier this month, during which Jennifer Hudson, a fellow "American Idol" alum, stepped in to help cover her role especially for the battle rounds rehearsals. However, Clarkson's return means that Hudson's temporary role is no longer necessary.

The return of Clarkson helps stabilize the lineup for "The Voice," joining fellow veteran winning coaches Adam Levine and John Legend for the upcoming season. Production of Seasons 28 and 29 is underway concurrently. Season 28 features other coaches like Michael Bublé, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, and Snoop Dogg, and is set to premiere on September 22, 2025.

Notably, Reba McEntire, who was once married to Brandon Blackstock's father, has continued filming despite the family tragedy. Celebrity guests will join Clarkson on "The Voice," including the Jonas Brothers, Gloria Estefan, Teddy Swims, and Lizzo.

The obituary for Brandon Blackstock revealed that he had been building a new life with his partner, Brittney Marie Jones, in Montana. Blackstock had two children from a previous marriage in addition to the two children he had with Clarkson. A representative for the family confirmed Blackstock's death and asked for privacy during this difficult time.

Brandon Blackstock's celebration of life was held in Montana, a place he loved. Fellow attendees included Amanda Craig, a Nashville hairstylist, and Shane Tarleton, who posted an Instagram Story featuring a photo of attendees around a firepit.

Kelly Clarkson, 43, will also return to her daytime talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," in early September. She is set to begin production on the seventh season of her show. Clarkson will also star in a touching special called "Songs & Stories" that airs Tuesday night.
