Singapore's election results flashed a blinding "green light" for the People's Action Party (PAP), as they garnered a whopping 65.57% of the votes — a significant rise of over 4 percentage points compared to the 2020 election. At a press conference, newly elected Prime Minister Lawrence Wong hailed this triumph as a "monumental mandate to steer our nation."

The PAP snatched a total of 87 seats, scoring victories in 15 Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) and 14 Single Member Constituencies (SMCs). Besides the 82 additional seats gained through the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC walkover win, the incumbent party also successfully defended all its other strongholds.

Infected with a swell of gratitude, Wong addressed the media alongside senior members of the PAP's leadership. He admitted that while he and his team were initially cautious, they aimed to give their all for the people of Singapore, "knowing that in the end, the voters hold the final say."

When asked about his satisfaction with the election's outcome, Wong responded confidently, "Hell yeah, I'm thrilled with the result." He emphasized that this endorsement motivates them to work even harder, promising to serve all Singaporeans, regardless of party preference.

Addressing the election during a "crucial juncture" for the nation, Wong underscored the international attention on Singapore, with investors and foreign governments taking note. He expressed hope that this solid mandate would position Singapore to emerge victorious amidst the challenging global economy, geopolitical shifts, and leadership transition.

With this defining mandate, Wong and his team pledged to govern with humility and responsibility, pledging to serve every Singaporean - voters and non-voters alike. In similar sentiments, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong highlighted the significance of this empowering mandate for PAP's governance.

On the flip side, the election also demonstrated the growing desire for alternative voices in governance. As the PAP gears up to steer Singapore's course ahead, the opposition's presence - particularly the Workers' Party - ensures a semblance of political diversity. The PAP acknowledges this need, as they confront future challenges while remaining focused on implementing reforms and addressing societal needs, such as gender equality, housing, and healthcare.
