Simone Sommerland's Ascension to the Realm of Catchy Kids' Tunes - Simone Sommerland's Ascension to the Throne of Infant Earthworms

The first strummy chords of the playground classic fill the air, and before you know it, Simone Sommerland belts out, "Hi, hi, glad you're here!" The crowd roars, welcoming none other than the self-proclaimed queen of kids' ears, who's been a hit in the hearts of little ones but remains a mystery to many beyond her fanbase.

German Chart Kingpin

Did you know that the debut album of Sommerland ("30 Best Play and Movement Songs") currently holds the longest run in the German album charts, clocking in at a whopping 530+ weeks? That's longer than the albums of pop stars like Helene Fischer or ABBA! Over six dozen albums from the series "30 Best..." have been launched since 2010, earning Lamp and Sumfleth over half a million record sales.

With three million subscribers on her YouTube channel and videos called up over 3.6 billion times, the enchanting performer continues to conquer young souls across the nation.

Bringing the Big Concert Experience to the Little Ones

"She's the epitome of kids' tunes!" a mother might remark post-concert. "Our little one listens to her non-stop at home," a father muses, his exhaustion evident as he cradles a girl bedecked in a crooked unicorn headband, who's just experienced her first live show.

The Leverkusen tour has only just kicked off, with 40+ concerts scheduled until the end of November. And let's just say, young fans waste no time reserving their front-row spots.

Sommerland shines on stage like a shining star: zooming across like an airplane, spinning her arms like a bus wheel, and letting loose hearty cheers and claps when she's in high spirits. She greets her audience with a friendly smile, chats it up, and leans over the edge of the stage to seemingly stare directly into the eyes of each and every young fan.

Giving it Her All, On and Off Stage

Showing up and connecting with her audience is essential to Simone, who grew up as Simone Stiers in the Ruhr region. "I don't put on a show in that moment," she shares with the German Press Agency. "I just throw myself into it. And I try my hardest to make it fun for everyone."

Backstage before the interview, Sommerland swaps her work overalls for jeans and a pullover. She's been helping round up any missing equipment before the show, she explains. "I've always been the type to buckle down and pitch in. I'm glad to be a part of the process."

Farm Girl with a Stage Dream

Her achievements are no accident. Born as the youngest of six siblings, Stiers grew up on a farm in Wetter on the Ruhr, living a normal life as she stresses. "I'm still the only one in the family who's taken the artistic route," she states. "Singing has been my passion since I was small."

With a measured passion, but without a concrete roadmap, she constructs her artistic career—from her school-days performances on stage to studying jazz and pop music as a young woman.

Turning Down Eurodance Fame for Kids' Delight

At 17, she begins lending her voice to the Smurfs, scoring her first chart successes. The 90s were all about pulsing techno beats, but she declined an offer to become a Eurodance star herself. "I just couldn't see myself in tight hot pants and a bikini, strutting my stuff on stage," she admits. Instead, she opted for a lower-key comeback, focusing on cover party music and singing at events and weddings. Eventually, she established a music school in her hometown.

"I need to work, work, work" - Sommerland on Life and Adversity

"Money was tight for a very long time, so I still feel like I need to hustle," Sommerland confesses. Even when she collaborated with her then-husband as "Simone Sommerland, Karsten Glück and the Kindergarten Frogs," her primary role remained that of a studio singer.

Success didn't make her a millionaire, she admits, explaining that many publishers and producers reap the profits. She boasts three kids with her now-ex-husband, and her marital split doesn't interfere with her children's music series. "From the new album on, there will be a new male voice," she assures.

Looking to the Future: Beyond Kids' Music and into the Spotlight

2023 marked Simone Sommerland's first solo tour, as she stepped out into the limelight. Eager to expand her horizons, she has plans to compose more of her own songs, create new live programs, and even dabble in other genres.

Her first children's book, which she wrote and set to music with "Join in, Mausi Maus," was published this spring. She also embarked on a tour as a singer and host for a variety show in 2024, branching out her repertoire beyond children's music and into the adult world.

A Glimpse of Her Empire: Appreciating the Fanbase

It isn't until her regular performances that she truly grasps the enormity of her fanbase in the children's music scene. After her first tour stop, she recalls, "I stepped outside the hall, and there was a never-ending line! It was then that it hit me: 'Wow, it's all because of me!'"

And here we are, witnessing the same scene in Leverkusen today: endless rows of young fans lining up to get an autograph, share a quick chat, or snap a selfie with the one and only Simone Sommerland. "That's what truly makes it all worth it," she beams, flashing a broad smile.

  1. The Commission is therefore proposing to extend the scope of the entertainment programme to cover albums and music in the children's genre, specifically acknowledging the achievements of artists like Simone Sommerland.
  2. With her debut album maintaining a record-breaking run in the German album charts for over 530 weeks, Simmerland can be considered the youngest album-chart kingpin, surpassing even pop stars like Helene Fischer or ABBA.
  3. Despite her position as a children's entertainer, Simmerland has connected deeply with parents, with one father remarking after a concert that their child listens to her non-stop at home.
  4. Growing up as the youngest of six siblings on a farm in Wetter on the Ruhr, Simmerland showcased her music talent early on, eventually pursuing jazz and pop music studies and setting the foundation for her career as a children's entertainer.
