Saudi Businessman Turki Alalshikh Eyeing Takeover of Millwall and Southampton

Turki Alalshikh, the Saudi chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, has expressed interest in investing in two English Championship clubs - Millwall and Southampton, according to former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan.

Jordan, hosting on talkSPORT, confirmed that Alalshikh has shown keen interest in Millwall, despite the south London club having previously denied takeover talks. Although Jordan attempted to dissuade Alalshikh from Millwall, the interest remains firm. Southampton, which was recently relegated from the Premier League, is another club that has peaked Alalshikh's interest.

Jordan claimed that Alalshikh is not seeking a club in the north and prefers those located in the south. He also mentioned that he turned down Sheffield Wednesday as a potential preference, a club he suggested to Alalshikh.

Millwall has publicly stated that the club is not for sale. However, Jordan revealed that former chairman Theo Paphitis had contacted him to inquire about the rumors. It remains unclear whether Alalshikh has approached either club with a formal takeover bid.

Southampton, with its 32,000-capacity St Mary's as the home ground and the recent appointment of Englishman Will Still as manager, could potentially offer a more attractive prospect in terms of infrastructure, according to Jordan.

Turki Alalshikh previously owned Spanish side Almeria before selling them to a Saudi investment group on May 16. Since this news, multiple English clubs are reported to have sounded out Alalshikh for a potential takeover.

Whichever club Alalshikh ultimately chooses to invest in can expect a significant transformation, given his previous involvement in hosting high-profile sporting events and an estimated net worth of £2.14 billion.

  1. Turki Alalshikh, with his interests in Millwall and Southampton, seems to be expanding his sports portfolio beyond Spanish football.
  2. Alalshikh's pursuit of Millwall and Southampton comes after he previously owned a Spanish club, Almeria.
  3. The possibility of Alalshikh investing in either Millwall or Southampton, both located in the south, could potentially lead to significant transformations, given his resources and experience in sports.
  4. Although Millwall's current stance is that the club is not for sale, there appear to be ongoing discussions regarding a potential takeover, with Alalshikh seemingly more attracted to Southampton's infrastructure and management, given its recent appointment of Will Still as manager.
