Director Praises Actress's Performance - Sigourney Weaver stuns as a teen in *Avatar: Fire and Ash*—here’s how she did it

Sigourney Weaver has earned high praise for her role as teenager Kiri in Avatar: Fire and Ash, the latest instalment of James Cameron's blockbuster franchise. The film, released in German cinemas on December 17, 2025, marks another collaboration between the actress and director, who first worked together on Aliens in 1986. Cameron himself commended Weaver's ability to embody a young character with striking authenticity.

Weaver, aged between 70 and 71 during filming, described playing Kiri as one of the greatest challenges of her career. To prepare, she mentally revisited her own teenage years, recalling the awkwardness and insecurity she felt at 14 and 15. She once saw herself as clumsy and invisible—traits she channeled into her portrayal of the young Na'vi girl.

Weaver's performance in Avatar: Fire and Ash has been widely recognised for its emotional range and believability. The film's December 2025 release in Germany confirms the franchise's enduring popularity. Her ability to capture teenage vulnerability, decades after her own youth, stands as a testament to her skill as an actress.
