Significant disappointments for AAP as 13 council members step down, establishing Indraprastha Development Party presided by Mukesh Goyal

In a shake-up of Delhi's civic administration, a whopping 13 AAP councillors have jumped ship to form a new political entity, the Indraprastha Vikas Party. This dramatic move, rooted in development concerns and internal disagreements, has caused a ripple in Delhi's civic ground, with Mukesh Goyal steering the helm of the new party.

In an exclusive conversation with PTI, the senior councillor sheds light on the reasons behind the breakaway. "Two and a half years post our election, not a single stone has been turned for meaningful development," Goyal lamented. "The party has been drowned in internal squabbles and a toxic culture of blame-shifting. We've voiced our concerns, but our pleas have been overlooked." Goyal has been designated as the President of the newly-formed party.

The disgruntled councillors, now leading the Indraprastha Vikas Party, are none too pleased with the current administration. They allege that their requests for budgets needed for developing projects within their respective wards have been repeatedly denied. They are determined to prioritize tangible work for Delhi's citizens and strive to ensure the efficient operation of the local governing body and the execution of pro-people policies.

The Indraprastha Vikas Party will be chaired by veteran municipal figure, Hemchand Goyal, and includes key former AAP councillors such as Dinesh Bharadwaj, Himani Jain, Usha Sharma, Sahib Kumar, Rakhi Kumar, Ashok Pandey, Rajesh Kumar, and Anil Rana, among others.

A Power Play in the Heart of India's Capital

This substantial shift within the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) comes at a critical juncture. The BJP, with 117 seats, currently commands a majority in the MCD, leaving the AAP with 100 seats. This political realignment has presented the BJP with an opportunity to consolidate its control over Delhi's civic affairs.

The formation of the Indraprastha Vikas Party will likely impact the upcoming elections for zonal chairpersons and deputy chairpersons, which will lay the groundwork for significant panels, such as the standing committee.

Yet, this political reshuffle in Delhi's civic governance is far from over. The Indraprastha Vikas Party represents a vocal challenge to the current administration and signals ongoing internal unrest within the AAP. Only time will reveal the impact of this political earthquake on Delhi's civic landscape.
