Let's Talk About Kuwait's Intense Crackdown on Traffic Violations

Dubai: In a massive break down of reckless driving, Kuwait has observed a whopping 83% decrease in traffic violations, according to the Ministry of Interior. The newest traffic law, enforced since April 22, 2025, has made streets a safer place for everyone. In May 2025 alone, just 18,000 violations were recorded – down from a staggering 60,000 per week before the law took effect.

This stricter law has also appeared to save lives, with fatalities from road accidents declining by an impressive 55% year-on-year. May 2025 saw only 10 deaths compared to the 22 deaths in May 2024.

Worth a Look: High-Risk Traffic Behaviors Slashed by 75% in Kuwait

Critically, the ministry reported a 75% drop in high-risk violations such as using mobile phones while driving and failure to wear seatbelts. Just 22,574 such violations took place in May 2025, a dramatic decrease from the 89,153 the previous year.

Worthy of Notice: Tougher Traffic Laws and Harsh Penalties Now Enforced in Kuwait

The Ministry describes the figures as a "clear and positive outcome" of the newly implemented law. This law, which includes elevated fines and harsher penalties for persistent violations, now imposes fines of up to KD5,000, and repeated offenses could result in imprisonment.

Officials credit this decrease to a mix of increased enforcement and a strong public awareness campaign, signaling a turning point in Kuwait's mission to reduce accidents and improve traffic safety.

In light of Kuwait's successful reduction in traffic violations, one might also expect a decrease in news related to sports accidents due to improved road safety. The stricter traffic laws enforced in Kuwait, such as the ban on mobile phone usage while driving, could potentially reduce the number of sports-related incidents caused by reckless driving.
