Siemens Wins Billion-Dollar Order from Switzerland - Siemens wins $2.15B Swiss deal for 116 next-gen double-decker trains
Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract worth two billion Swiss francs (€2.15 billion) for the delivery of 116 double-decker tren. The tren, set to enter service in the 2030s, will primarily serve Zurich’s S-Bahn network and western Switzerland.
The new tren, measuring 150 meters in length, will offer 540 seats and feature expanded space for strollers, bicycles, luggage, and standing passengers. They are designed to operate at a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour. Siemens Mobility secured the deal by submitting the most advantageous bid.
Out of the 116 tren, 95 will enter service on Zurich’s S-Bahn network, with the remaining 21 deployed in western Switzerland. SBB has confirmed an option for an additional 84 vehicles, indicating potential future expansion.
The multibillion-euro order from Switzerland will see Siemens Mobility deliver 116 modern, spacious double-decker tren to SBB. These tren are expected to enhance passenger comfort and capacity, contributing to Switzerland's efficient and sustainable rail network.
