Sibling rivalry resurfaces in MotoGP's French race as Marc Marquez emerges victorious against brother Alex
In the heart of the MotoGP World Championship, Marc Marquez has once again proven his dominance, edging past his younger sibling to secure the top spot in the standings after a stellar performance in the 2025 sprint races. With six wins from six, Marquez shows no signs of slowing down as he charges towards the finish line.
"I'm riding well, let's see if we can finish the job tomorrow," Marquez said after securing another victory, this time at the Le Mans Sprint race, waving away any doubts about his capability. The chequered flag was waved by cycling legend Mark Cavendish, adding a touch of elegance to the moment.
Home favorite Fabio Quartararo started the race from pole, setting a new lap record in qualifying. However, he struggled to maintain his pace, finishing fourth.
"Fabio was super fast at the start, I was pushing a lot and said to myself 'I can't follow him'," explained Marquez. But as the race progressed, Quartararo's pace dropped, and Marquez seized the opportunity to close the gap.
"Then he dropped a bit in pace and I began to feel better and better," Marquez added. Quartararo held off the Marquez brothers at the start, sparking a deafening roar from the expectant home fans.
Francesco Bagnaia, riding a factory Ducati, crashed early on lap two, while Marc Marquez kept a keen eye on Quartararo. By lap four, Marquez was right on the Yamaha leader's tail.
Approaching midway, Marquez took the lead, with Quartararo momentarily caught in a Marquez sandwich as Alex Marquez, riding a Ducati satellite Gresini bike, moved into third. Alex has finished second in every Saturday dash since the start of the season.
"Really happy to be second, another P2!" said Alex. Rookie Fermin Aldeguer, Alex's Gresini teammate, claimed his first sprint podium in third. However, his celebrations took an unexpected turn when he collided with Marquez's rear wheel on the cool-down lap. Fortunately, no harm was done, and Marquez was quick to congratulate the youngster with a hug.
"I feel incredible, it's a dream for me to be here with these top riders. We have the speed, we just need more experience," said the young Spaniard.
As it stands, Marc Marquez leads the riders' standings with 151 points, with Alex close behind on 149 points.
