Sia's Husband Seeks Sole Custody, Alleges Drug Abuse
Sia's estranged husband, Daniel Bernad, has accused the singer of drug abuse in a new legal filing, seeking sole custody of their 19-month-old son, Summi. Bernad claims Sia's alleged substance abuse poses a serious threat to their child's safety.
Bernad's suspicions about Sia's drug use began in March when she appeared disoriented at a celebrity's birthday party. In a recent court filing, Bernad requested weekly random drug tests for Sia, along with three additional tests per month. He also asked the court to award him $77,245 in monthly child support, citing Sia's 'reckless, dangerous' conduct.
Sia, however, maintains she has been sober for six months and is currently enrolled in a drug rehab program with regular testing and a sober companion. She alleges Bernad's accusations about her drug use are entirely unfounded and misleading. Sia also claims Bernad has not agreed to drug tests himself, and his lifestyle, including nightlife and recreational drug use, is incompatible with parenting.
Bernad's filing also revealed Sia was hospitalized for two weeks last month. A drug test during this time showed she had consumed barbiturates and benzodiazepines. Sia filed for divorce from Bernad in Los Angeles this past March following a two-year marriage.
The ongoing custody battle between Sia and Daniel Bernad highlights the complex nature of their relationship and the alleged substance abuse issues. As the legal process unfolds, the safety and well-being of their young son remain the primary concern. Both parties have been ordered to undergo drug testing, with the court's final decision pending further evidence.
