Shutting Down Auto Museum Selling Off 295 Impeccable Collector Cars

The automotive world is abuzz with the upcoming auction of the Larry Klairmont Collection, set to take place from September 19-21, 2022. This historic event marks the culmination of the closure of Klairmont Kollections Automotive Museum in Chicago, a treasure trove of classic and unique vehicles.

Larry Klairmont, a World War II veteran and a respected Chicago car collector, started the museum as an overflow storage for his extensive car collection. Over the years, it grew to become the largest collection on display in the Midwest, featuring more than 300 cars as of 2017.

The auction, which is a no-reserve sale, includes over 275 vehicles, along with more than 1,000 pieces of road art and automobilia that composed Larry Klairmont’s personal collection. Among the notable vehicles up for grabs are the Keaton- and West-era Batmobiles, a "Black Beauty" Imperial, a Mystery Machine, and the Lincoln Continental Concept Sedan from 2002, often considered the crown jewel of the museum.

One unique vehicle that stands out is the 1969 Plymouth Barracuda, affectionately known as the "Flower-Powered" Barracuda. With original mileage under 34,000, this vehicle is a testament to Klairmont's penchant for preserving historically significant vehicles.

Mercedes Streeter, a notable figure in the automotive community, has shared news of the auction on the Autopian, a news platform known for its daily newsletter covering the latest car news, reviews, and features. The platform has also provided a way for readers to submit tips, ensuring that the automotive community stays informed.

The "Larry's Legacy" lots from the museum's collection can be browsed at Mecum. This auction represents a significant offering of classic, muscle, and unique collectible cars, plus automotive art and memorabilia, all from Klairmont's private museum.

Sadly, Larry Klairmont passed away in 2021, but his legacy lives on through this auction. The museum will close its doors for good a week before the auction, offering potential visitors a final chance to bid on pieces from this remarkable collection.

For those interested in the auction, mark your calendars for September 19-21, 2022. It's an opportunity to own a piece of Chicago's automotive history and to honour the life and passion of a man who cherished classic cars."
