Shrek's iconic donkey character will star in a standalone movie.
In an exciting turn of events for animated movie fans, it has been confirmed that Eddie Murphy will once again lend his voice to the beloved character, Donkey, in a new standalone "Shrek" spin-off.
According to reports, production on this highly-anticipated film is set to begin in September 2025, with an anticipated release around 2028. The movie will focus on Donkey's unique family life, featuring his dragon wife and their half-dragon, half-donkey children.
Interestingly, this spin-off will follow the upcoming "Shrek 5," which has a scheduled release date of December 23, 2026, and will also feature original cast members, including Murphy. Details about the plot of the fifth "Shrek" film are being kept under wraps, but it's rumoured that the script is very funny.
Meanwhile, fans of the Mortal Kombat series are eagerly awaiting the release of the second instalment's trailer. Warner Bros. has recently unveiled the first trailer for "Mortal Kombat 2," which focuses on the tournament preparations.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time a "Shrek" character has received a standalone project. Puss in Boots, voiced by Antonio Banderas, got his own movie back in 2011, and a sequel was released in 2022.
As for the horror film about Sweeney Todd the barber showing in Krasnodar cinemas, while it's an interesting tidbit, it doesn't seem to be directly related to the "Shrek" spin-off or the upcoming "Shrek 5."
Stay tuned for more updates on these exciting movie projects!
This upcoming "Shrek" spin-off, focusing on Donkey's family life, falls under the category of 'movies-and-tv entertainment'. The anticipation for this movie builds as it follows the original cast members, including Eddie Murphy, who will reprise their roles.
Furthermore, animated movie fans also look forward to 'entertainment' from the upcoming "Shrek 5," though details about its plot are yet to be revealed.
