Shows Postponed Until 31st May

The Deutsche Oper am Rhein, a renowned opera and ballet institution, has been affected by the ongoing fight against the coronavirus. The pandemic has forced the cancellation of several performances and the postponement of others, as the organization navigates the challenges of the current situation.

One of the most notable cancellations is the opera premiere of Verdi's "Macbeth" originally planned for May 29. Additionally, the ballet program "b.44" has been called off. Performances of "Gold", "Ronja the Robber's Daughter" and "Magic Flute for Children" have also been cancelled.

In a statement, General Manager Prof. Christoph Meyer acknowledged the ongoing fight against the coronavirus, emphasising that it is not yet over. However, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein continues to adapt and innovate, offering a comprehensive online program during the corona break.

The online offerings include an intriguing workshop focused on the drama, seduction, passion, loyalty, jealousy, intrigues, and betrayal in Italian operas of Rossini, Verdi, and Puccini. Ilaria Lanzino, stage director and director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, will lead this online workshop starting from April 20.

To help combat boredom during these challenging times, the Young Opera has prepared numerous recipes and a digital holiday project, "Opernmacher - The Short Film Edition", with over 70 children participating, including a children's choir from Venezuela.

From April 23, 7:30 pm onwards, seven soloists from the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein will sing lullabies from their home countries on the official website, www.operamrhein.de. The lullabies will be sung in simple elegance and their mother tongue by Liana Aleksanyan, Luiza Fatyol, Maria Kataeva, Anke Krabbe, Katarzyna Kuncio, Florian Simson, and Richard Šveda.

The free streaming offer includes recordings of opera and ballet performances by the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, such as Martin Schälpfer's ballet "Swan Lake" and Georg Friedrich Händel's Baroque jewel "Xerxes" in the production of Stefan Herheim. Further recordings will follow in the free streaming offer.

As many restrictions in public life will still be in place in the coming weeks, school trips are prohibited until the end of the school year. Despite these challenges, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein remains committed to providing artistic experiences, albeit in a digital format, during these unprecedented times.
