Showrunner uncertain about Naughty Dog developing certain concepts proposed by Neil Druckmann for The Last of Us Part 3: "He hasn't exclusively focused on one idea yet."
Ready for Some More Post-Apocalyptic Action?
With season 3 of The Last of Us TV show upcoming, fans are buzzing about whether Naughty Dog will deliver another installment of the beloved game series. Neil Druckmann, the creative mastermind behind the franchise, has tossed around some ideas for The Last of Us 3, but no concrete decisions have been made yet.
In an interview with BAFTA, showrunner Craig Mazin confirmed his familiarity with some of Druckmann's concepts for Part 3, but admitted that he's unsure if anything's been decided yet. Despite his eagerness for another game, Mazin hints that perhaps we should appreciate what we've got and let it rest.
"I've caught wind of a few ideas Neil's been kicking around for a potential third chapter. But I don't know if he's locked in on one," Mazin shared, adding that he'd hop on board for a Part 3 if it were to happen.
Naughty Dog has a reputation for delivering captivating, cinematic video games, some of their most notable works being The Last of Us and the Uncharted series. Druckmann himself has flip-flopped on the matter, previously mentioning that there's "probably" another outing for Joel and Ellie in store, but later suggesting that the HBO adaptation could serve as the concluding chapter of the series.
As much as gamers yearn for more, The Last of Us Part 2 delivered a satisfying conclusion. Perhaps it's time to cherish the story as it is. Naughty Dog's next venture will likely be Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a cosmic project offering a break from Earth, Nathan Drake, and the Cordyceps.
Mazin expressed his readiness to play whatever Naughty Dog produces, including Intergalactic, another Uncharted game, or another Last of Us game if it ever materializes. After all, the series' fate depends on whether the creators can craft a story that meets their high standards.
