Christmas Market optimism reigns in Hesse, despite challenges

Hesse's market traders and showmen remain positive about the upcoming Christmas market season, despite the high inflation and global uncertainty casting shadows on other sectors. "People will show up," shares Roger Simak, the Managing Director of the Hesse State Association of Market Traders and Showmen. "So far, the season has been pretty good, with only the damp weather towards the end spoiling the fun. We're hopeful that the spirit of the holidays will carry on unblemished."

Inflationary pressures are bearing down on the industry as well, but there won't be any significant price hikes for the visitor. According to Simak, the reduced tax rate on food consumed on the spot helps mitigate some of the inflationary impact. "Prices will remain relatively stable, with little change for most products," he said. However, the cost of raw materials for certain items like roasted almonds may influence prices, and traders are advised to proceed with caution when setting prices.

The market traders and showmen are making gradual progress in recovering from the coronavirus pandemic. "Our reserves are on the mend, and we are well-equipped to face the challenges ahead," shared Simak. Customs checks and potential delays due to price increases may intensify, but they're taking a measured approach to adjust prices, ensuring they remain competitive and customer-friendly.

Although high inflation and global uncertainty are putting pressure on consumer spending worldwide, including in Poland, it's challenging to predict the exact impact on Hesse's Christmas market season. For a more concrete outlook, consultations with local market traders, showmen, and economic analysts specializing in the Hesse region would be advisable.
