Show Cancellation Leaves Original Sin's Creator Unsatisfied: "Handling Wasn't Ideal" (Regarding Dexter)
In an unexpected turn of events, the much-anticipated revival of the hit show Dexter, titled Dexter: Original Sin, has faced a setback. The renewal of the show, initially announced in April 2023, was later revoked in August of the same year.
The series, currently streaming on Paramount Plus, follows a young Dexter Morgan (Paddy Gibson), as he transitions from student to vigilante serial killer. Dexter begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department, where he learns the ropes of being a vigilante, all under the watchful eye of his adoptive father, Harry, portrayed by Christian Slater. Harry helps Dexter design a 'special code' for killing other killers without getting caught.
Paramount Plus had planned another season of Dexter, following the success of New Blood and Resurrection. A season 2 writers' room was being set up, and filming was scheduled to begin in early 2026. However, the cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin is linked to Paramount's merger with Skydance. The new leadership led by Matt Thunell reviewed the shows and chose to focus on Dexter: Resurrection instead, effectively canceling the Trinity Killer spin-off series, Original Sin.
Clyde Phillips, the creator of Dexter: Original Sin, was informed about the renewal before it was revoked. He expressed dissatisfaction with how the cancellation was handled. The cancellation of Dexter: Original Sin may lead to the cancellation of the Trinity Killer spin-off series.
Despite the setback, fans can still look forward to a list of upcoming TV shows in 2025 and beyond, available for viewing on Paramount Plus. Let's hope that Dexter's story continues to captivate audiences, and we get to see more of the dark and complex world of Dexter Morgan.
