Neighbor Faces Trial for Alleged Attempted Murder with Shot Through Apartment Door

Get ready for a trial that's been six months in the making. A 49-year-old man is set to face a jury starting from 1 pm at Hamburg District Court, beginning Tuesday. The accused is charged with attempted murder by the public prosecutor's office. Allegedly, he targeted his neighbor's apartment with a bolt-action rifle due to "right-wing extremist and xenophobic sentiments."

The incident occurred on May 27 this year, as the offender aimed his rifle at the closed apartment door. The bullet went through, destroying a chest of drawers and embedding itself in the wall. Thankfully, the 24-year-old neighbor and her relative, who were present on the first floor, escaped unscathed.

Besides the rifle, the suspect was also discovered to have illegally kept a shotgun and twenty cartridges in his apartment in Niendorf district. The trial schedule includes eight additional hearings. Final verdict is expected on January 26.

The unsettling incident has ignited worries about the surge of extremist attitudes in the neighborhood. Police investigations revealed that the man's motives were rooted in right-wing extremist and xenophobic sentiments. Moreover, unlicensed firearms and ammunition were found during the raid, prompting further investigations.

On a broader perspective, the number of right-wing extremist incidents involving unlicensed firearms is not publicly available. However, to obtain such specific and detailed data, it's essential to consult official reports from law enforcement agencies or government sources.
