In the heart of Stuttgart-South, a group of basketball enthusiasts, including Mathias Blanck and Dr. Tobias Christian Fischer, are making a push for extended hours at the basketball court located near Marienplatz.

Marienplatz, a popular gathering spot during warm summer evenings, sees people linger on the terraces of restaurants, cafes, and bars until late at night. However, the basketball court closes at 8 pm, regardless of the time of day.

A petition has been started on openpetition.de, aiming to gather 3,700 signatures within the next four months. If successful, openPetition will contact Stuttgart's Mayor, Frank Nopper, directly for a statement. Dr. Fischer considers the goal ambitious but achievable, with the support of other street and basketball communities, such as the Cotta community, likely.

The Cotta community formed a club after the closure of the Cotta court in Stuttgart-East and is advocating for more courts in the city. The Cotta community's court is accessible for play daily from 8 am to 10 pm, and they offer supervised training and game sessions twice a week.

The petition is not the first success for the Cotta community. Recently, they managed to secure an interim 3x3 court with a hoop in front of the Ostend Children and Youth House.

While there are sports facilities available in Stuttgart, such as the Porsche Arena, Marienplatz in Stuttgart-South does not appear in the search results in connection with basketball court hours or petitions. For updates about the online petition or Mayor Nopper’s stance on extended basketball court hours in Marienplatz, Stuttgart-South, more specific local news sources or Stuttgart city official channels would be needed for accurate information.

Elsewhere in the area, the Zacke remains open until 22:45, and traffic through the Heslach Tunnel has no time limit. As the petition continues to gather support, the future of basketball at Marienplatz in Stuttgart-South remains to be seen.
