Cottbus - Get ready to bid farewell to Yannik Möker, a vital force in Energy Cottbus' lineup.
Here's the lowdown:
- Yannik Möker, a key player, is leaving Cottbus.
- Möker played in 27 league matches, scoring one goal.
- Lukas Michelbrink, a promising sensation from Hertha, is expected to step into Möker's shoes.
- Erik Tallig will remain with Cottbus until summer 2026.
- Finn Heidrich, a budding talent, is in line to sign his first professional contract.
According to our sources, the league's grapevine, Möker's exit comes as a surprise since negotiations for a contract extension were ongoing until recently.
Farewell, Cottbus' midfield powerhouse, who commanded the field in 27 league matches this season, notched one goal, and set up five others. Möker found his footing at Energy Cottbus after the Regionalliga promotion in January 2024, emerging as a critical player despite missing some games in the second half due to injury.
What's next for Möker? During a heated derby against Dynamo Dresden earlier this year, Möker expressed his openness to a contract extension, with talks already underway at that time. Little did we know that the 25-year-old would soon be on the hunt for a new club. Möker previously played for FSV Zwickau for three seasons, also in the third league.
Möker Out, Michelbrink In
As Möker prepares to embark on a new journey, his departure is marked by the arrival of Lukas Michelbrink (20), a top prospect from Hertha BSC, on loan for a year. Michelbrink is primed to fill Möker's shoes in central midfield.
For the role in the eight, Cottbus has Jonas Hofmann (28) and youngster Janis Juckel (20) signed up.
A Transfer on the Horizon for a Homegrown Talent? While Michelbrink takes over Möker's position, youth captain Finn Heidrich (18) looks set to secure his first professional contract.
Another Signing: Cottbus Strikes Again in the Regionalliga In the second half of the season, the left-back and captain Axel Borgmann (30) largely occupied the central midfield position.
Furthermore, the future of another midfielder is evident: Erik Tallig (25) will stay in Cottbus until summer 2026, according to Tallig's agent Raphael Ott's confirmation. "Tallig is not up for grabs this summer," Ott explained.
