Sheridan Kicks Off Operation Green Light for Veterans

The City of Sheridan is set to participate in Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative to support U.S. Veterans. The kickoff event will take place on Nov. 1 at Whitney Commons Park, featuring Veteran resource tables, music, family activities, and complimentary refreshments. A Fatbacks Southern BBQ truck will also be on site.

Operation Green Light aims to demonstrate community support for Veterans as they transition from military to civilian life. The initiative encourages individuals, businesses, and local governments to show their backing by lighting front doors with green bulbs from Nov. 4 to 11. Sheridan residents are invited to participate by replacing their porch lights with green bulbs, sharing photos on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight, and learning about local Veteran services.

The kickoff event in Sheridan will also serve as a collection point for nonperishable foods and personal care items to benefit local Veterans. Items requested include winter hats and gloves, thermoses and water bottles, men's clothing, travel-size toiletries, luggage, backpacks, slippers, new women's underwear, socks, and gift cards for local box stores or fuel. Free green light bulbs will be available at the event while supplies last.

Operation Green Light is a visible reminder of community support for Veterans. Last year, over 3,000 counties, parishes, and towns across the nation participated in the initiative. By taking part in Operation Green Light, Sheridan residents can show their appreciation and support for the Veterans in their community.
