Sheinbaum discusses Venezuela's suspected connections to the Sinaloa Cartel in Friday's morning news summary

In a significant development, the U.S. government, led by U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, has accused Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro of having ties with the Sinaloa Cartel. The U.S. has offered a $50 million reward for information leading to Maduro's arrest, alleging that he uses drug trafficking organizations like the Sinaloa Cartel to bring drugs and violence into the U.S. [1]

However, the Mexican government, under President Claudia Sheinbaum, has denied having any evidence or conducting any investigations supporting these claims. Mexico has emphasized that no information or investigation corroborates the U.S. claims linking Maduro to the Sinaloa Cartel. Sheinbaum has challenged the U.S. to present evidence if it exists and has framed the accusations as lacking basis from the Mexican perspective. [2][3][4]

The Mexican government also views these U.S. assertions in the context of respecting Mexican sovereignty and regional unity in Latin America. [2] This stance contrasts with the U.S. position, which has escalated pressure on Maduro by significantly increasing the reward amount for his capture due to alleged criminal connections. [1]

Meanwhile, President Sheinbaum of Mexico has declared that there will be no U.S. military "invasion" of Mexico. [6] In a separate development, Intocable, a Texas-based band, presented a new song to President Sheinbaum, which is dedicated to migrants and speaks about supporting them in difficult situations. [7] The song will be presented by President Sheinbaum at a future event. [7]

The Mexican government is offering "different options" to migrant caravan members. [8] The migrant caravan, composed of individuals from various countries, including Cuba, Haiti, and Venezuela, intends to reach Mexico City rather than the northern border with the United States. [9] As of Friday, the migrants are still walking northward in Chiapas. [10]

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum is working with the migrants, offering them options such as repatriation or employment in Mexico. [11] Officials from the Interior Ministry and the National Immigration Institute are also working with the migrant caravan. [12]

It's worth noting that the U.S. has accused Maduro of being "one of the largest narco traffickers in the world and a threat to our national security." [13] Maduro is also accused by the U.S. of using foreign terrorist organizations like TDA, Sinaloa, and Cartel of the Suns to bring deadly drugs and violence into the U.S. [14]

In a recent statement, Sheinbaum said it was the "first time" she had heard of the alleged links between Maduro and the Sinaloa Cartel. [5] Mexico recognized Maduro's victory in the 2024 presidential election in Venezuela. [15] Claudia Curiel de Icaza also spoke about the México Canta music competition, which is approaching its semi-final stage. [16]

The U.S. has increased the reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. [1] The Texas-based band Intocable will perform at the grand final of the México Canta contest. [17]
