Gisele Oppermann (37), a TV personality and former "GNTM" contestant, along with her 11-year-old daughter, has recently relocated to Brazil. In an interview with news agency Spot on News, she opens up about her new life in the coastal town of Jericoacoara and her ambitions for the future.
Moving in Silence, Thriving in Sun
Gisele Oppermann: I feel fantastic! It's like finding my place. Every day's sunny, every day's warm. I've settled in beautifully here already.
Discovering the Charm of Brazil
Oppermann: I wasn't born here, and I haven't experienced Brazilian life fully. If I see an insect like a cockroach or a lizard, it gives me the heebie-jeebies. (laughs) Overcoming these fears is part of my experience here, but there are definitely a lot of beautiful aspects—like the culture, the hospitality, and the outdoor lifestyle. My daughter and I often ride horses, which helps me unwind.
Germany? Forget About It!
Oppermann: Nope. I used to buy fresh produce daily, which I occasionally miss. But the abundance of fresh fruits here more than makes up for it. Germany's chapter is closed for me. Coming back isn't an option. If life in Brazil doesn't work out, we'll look into other prospects, such as Portugal or Cyprus. My daughter enjoyed Dubai, but it's too scorching, and there's not enough greenery for me.
Adapting to the Move—One Step at a Time
Oppermann: I think kids are pretty resilient. She misses math class and her pals a tad, especially her closest friend. They stay in touch online. She also made a local friend and meets with her every day. She takes online classes and visits the pool or the beach. She recently started learning Capoeira and wishes to pick up surfing soon—it's amazing! But that's not my cup of tea.
A Fresh Start in Community and Profession
Oppermann: I have formed meaningful connections here. I dropped by a radio station spontaneously and had a chat. Brazilians are extraordinarily welcoming. My family lives here, so I have a solid support system. I'm not actively seeking romance. I'm content and invested in my motherly role, enjoying this phase of life with my daughter.
Aiming for a Slice of the Brazilian Life
Oppermann: I could envision opening a German-Italian restaurant. I can cook and bake beautifully. I've heard that traditional German cuisine—such as sauerkraut and pork knuckle—is popular here. Yet, I'm aware of the demanding nature of operating a restaurant. I wouldn't have enough time for my daughter. So, I'm not rushing to kick-start the project. I've just released my first book and I'm working on two more. I'm also dabbling in astrology and plan to continue with reality TV, aiming for roles beyond modeling.
A Reality TV Veteran's Perspective
Oppermann: Nowadays, everything seems to be about creating sensations and manufacturing drama. It's almost inevitable that people want to stand out, no matter what it takes. I respond based on my feelings, depending on the situation. The drama queen, after all, reigns supreme in reality TV, and I have no plans to abandon it!
Future Dreams in Brazil
Oppermann: I'd love to acquire at least two horses here. That's a dream of mine. I'm not sure I'll make it happen this year, though. My daughter is asking for a pet dog, and I'd like to grant her wish—but not before our current pooch is settled.
