Shashi Tharoor Pays Homage at 9/11 Memorial in U.S., Expresses Condemnation of Pakistan's Terrorism
India Accuses Pakistan of State-Sponsored Terrorism Amidst US Visit
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, heading an all-party delegation in the United States to discuss India's stance against terrorism, highlighted Pakistan's involvement in the April 22 terrorist attack in Kashmir's Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, primarily tourists. Tharoor asserted that India seeks peaceful economic growth and global integration, but Pakistan resorts to terrorism to achieve its strategic goals.
Addressing the media at the Indian Consulate in New York, Tharoor stated, "India is not pursuing warfare with Pakistan; we aim to focus on our growing economy and integrating our people into the 21st-century world. Sadly, Pakistan is not a status quo power like us. They covet the territory we control and are willing to obtain it through terrorism, which is unacceptable to us."
The delegation, upon arrival in the US, paid tribute to the 9/11 attack victims and reiterated that terrorism is a shared predicament for both nations. "Visiting this city still bearing the scars of terror attacks aligns with our objective. We aim to underscore the universality of this issue while standing in solidarity with the victims," said Tharoor.
Discussing the Pahalgam attack, Tharoor explained that the assault involved identifying individuals based on their religion and targeting them. "After the incident, The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility. However, they later withdrew their claim. Despite sharing information about TRF with the UN sanctions committee in 2023 and 2024, Pakistan's alleged support continues to pose a significant threat," he added.
Regrettably, Pakistan followed its pattern of denial, successfully removing any mention of the TRF from a UN Security Council press statement draft, with China's assistance. The all-party delegation, comprising JMM MP Sarfaraz Ahmad, BJP MPs Tejasvi Surya and Bhubaneswar Kalita, TDP MP Ganti Harish Madhur, is scheduled to visit Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia following their US engagement.
