Sharks' Pride Night Celebrates LGBTQ+ Community with Art, Hockey and Activism

The San Jose Sharks are gearing up for their annual Pride Night at SAP Center on April 2. This year's event promises a vibrant celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, blending hockey with performances, exclusive merchandise, and community engagement. The evening will highlight partnerships, artistic collaborations, and fundraising efforts to support local LGBTQ+ initiatives.

The festivities will kick off early with a Pride-themed Watch Party at Splash Nightclub on March 14, where fans can join Team Teal on the road. Back at the arena, the Sharks will unveil a special edition Pride game logo, designed by Bay Area artist Smooth Jazz, which will appear on a limited-edition puck and throughout SAP Center.

The night itself will feature a powerful performance of both O Canada and The Star-Spangled Banner by the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. DJ Cisco will keep the atmosphere lively, spinning tracks from LGBTQ+ artists, while in-game content and storytelling moments emphasise representation and community. Fans can also explore the concourse to connect with organisations like PFLAG, Silicon Valley Pride, The Q Corner, and SF Earthquakes.

Beyond the game, the Sharks Pro Shop will offer exclusive Pride merchandise, including tees, hoodies, and shirseys. A custom Pride jersey auction will raise funds for The Tower Foundation via the Pride Center at SJSU, supporting programmes that empower the LGBTQ+ community. The team's commitment extends beyond the event, with ongoing partnerships, murals like the Sharks Community Connections Project, and participation in local Pride parades.

The Sharks Community Connections Mural Project, created with Local Color, aims to unite underrepresented communities with hockey under the Teal Together banner. This initiative reflects the team's broader efforts to foster inclusivity in sports and beyond.

Pride Night at SAP Center will bring together hockey, art, and activism in a single celebration. The event's proceeds, partnerships, and performances will directly benefit LGBTQ+ organisations across the Bay Area. The Sharks' year-round engagement underscores their dedication to building a more inclusive community for fans and players alike.
