Sharks bolster roster with Blackhawks trade for Brossoit and Allan
The San Jose Sharks have made a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks, acquiring goaltender Laurent Brossoit, defenseman Nolan Allan, and a 2028 seventh-round draft pick. In return, the Sharks sent defenseman Ryan Ellis, forward Jake Furlong, and their own 2028 fourth-round selection to Chicago. The deal was confirmed by Sharks general manager Mike Grier on Tuesday.
Brossoit, a 32-year-old Canadian netminder, brings experience from his time with the Winnipeg Jets and Vegas Golden Knights. He played a supporting role in Vegas’ 2022-23 Stanley Cup victory, appearing in eight games with a 3.18 goals-against average and an .894 save percentage. Over his 140-game NHL career, he holds a .911 save percentage, a 2.64 GAA, and a 64-46-13 record.
Allan, a 22-year-old defenseman, was previously with the Prince Albert Raiders in the WHL before joining his current organization. He won the WHL Championship with Seattle in the 2022-23 season and earned spots on both the WHL Second All-Star Team and the CHL Memorial Cup All-Star Team. In 43 professional games so far, he has recorded eight points, including one goal and seven assists. The Sharks’ trade package included Ellis, a veteran defenseman, and Furlong, a young forward. Chicago also received San Jose’s 2028 fourth-round pick as part of the agreement.
The acquisition adds depth to the Sharks’ roster with Brossoit’s goaltending experience and Allan’s defensive potential. Chicago gains draft capital and two players in Ellis and Furlong. Both teams will now adjust their lineups ahead of the upcoming season.
