Shapovalov of Canada loses to Nardi of Italy in the second round of the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament.

In the ongoing Cincinnati Open, two Canadian tennis players from Montreal, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo, have made it to the next round following their victories in the second round on Saturday.

Felix Auger-Aliassime, seeded 11th in the tournament, secured his place in the third round with a hard-fought win against Rinderknech. The match, scheduled for Monday, will see Auger-Aliassime face Arthur Rinderknech of France.

Meanwhile, Auger-Aliassime's compatriot, Gabriel Diallo, also clinched a spot in the next round. Diallo will square off against the top-seeded Italian, Jannik Sinner, in what promises to be an exciting encounter.

Unfortunately, another Canadian, Denis Shapovalov, a 24th-seeded player from Richmond Hill, Ont., was eliminated in the second round by Luca Nardi. Nardi, who entered the tournament as a lucky loser, put up a strong performance, winning the match after two hours and 28 minutes.

However, Nardi's run came to an end in the fourth round (Round of 16) when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 6-1, 6-4 on August 14, 2025. This means that Nardi does not have a next match beyond the loss to Alcaraz in this tournament.

The results for Luca Nardi and Jakub Mensik, the 16th-seeded Czech, were not available at the time of this report.

This report was first published on Aug. 10, 2025, by The Canadian Press. The loss for Denis Shapovalov occurred in a three-set match with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4.

As the Cincinnati Open continues, fans can look forward to more exciting matches featuring these talented Canadian players.

Felix Auger-Aliassime and Gabriel Diallo, two Canadian tennis players from Montreal, may continue their sports journey beyond the Cincinnati Open, considering their outstanding performances. In the event of their victory in the ongoing tournament, they might showcase their skills in tennis on the courts of Toronto, a renowned sport city in Canada.
