Shamrock Rovers anticipated to dismantle Ballkani on Sunday, despite a prior caution issued
Shamrock Rovers Aim to Turn Tables in Conference League Match Against Ballkani
Shamrock Rovers, the Irish League leaders, are gearing up for a crucial UEFA Europa Conference League match against Ballkani, aiming to overturn a 1-0 aggregate deficit from the first leg. The home team, with a strong record at Tallaght Stadium, is favored to win the return leg and secure a place in the playoffs.
David McMillan, the Shamrock Rovers striker, and former player Richie Towell have both expressed confidence in the team's ability to overcome the deficit. McMillan believes that Shamrock Rovers showed they were the fitter and stronger side in the first leg, but didn't manage to lay a glove on Ballkani. Towell, on the other hand, expects the team to turn things around at Tallaght Stadium on Thursday, and believes they will have the majority of possession.
Shamrock Rovers' form in Tallaght Stadium has been excellent, and the team is expected to approach the match assertively to capitalize on familiar conditions. The match is predicted to be tight and tense, with a narrow margin and under 3.5 goals likely.
Shamrock Rovers have a history of success in Europe, having previously defeated FC Shkupi in the Europa League qualifiers in 2022. The goal was scored by Sunday Adetunji in the second half. Adetunji, a key player for Ballkani, is known for his good link-up play and physical presence, similar to Tammy Abraham.
The Conference League play-off for Shamrock Rovers could be against Larne or Portuguese side Santa Clara. Despite a goalless draw against Galway United, Shamrock Rovers remain in control at the top of the league, with a 10-point lead over Bohemians. McMillan has suggested that the team can rest players during league games, as they have put themselves in a position to target European games.
McMillan's prediction for the RTE Soccer podcast is that Shamrock Rovers will win the Conference League play-off. He expects the team to get through the Conference League tie against Ballkani, and is optimistic about their chances of showing another level in Tallaght Stadium.
