Power outages at SH-Netz well below national average - SH Netz slashes power outages with €400M grid upgrades in 2024
HanseWerk's subsidiary, SH Netz, has reported impressive figures for 2024, with customers experiencing significantly fewer power outages than the national average. The company has attributed this success to its ongoing investment in digitalization and underground power lines.
In 2024, SH Netz customers endured power cuts for an average of 6.5 minutes, less than half the national average of 11.7 minutes. This remarkable performance is a testament to the company's commitment to maintaining and upgrading its infrastructure. Benjamin Merkt, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at HanseWerk, oversees these efforts.
SH Netz invested nearly €400 million in 2024 to expand and maintain its energy grids. This substantial investment has led to the commissioning of over 470 digital distribution substations, bringing the total in Schleswig-Holstein to over 3,000. The company also continues to prioritize the expansion of underground power lines, with approximately 97 percent of its medium- and low-voltage cables now buried.
Looking ahead, SH Netz plans to invest several hundred million euros in 2025 to further enhance its infrastructure. The company's focus on digitalization and underground power lines has proven successful in reducing power outages, and these efforts will continue to benefit customers in the Schleswig-Holstein region.
