SF Giants recall Kyle Harrison, designate Danny Coulombe for assignment

Kyle Harrison's back in the big leagues! The San Francisco Giants have recalled the young pitcher from their minor league club following their 9-3 win over the Rockies on Sunday. To make room for Harrison, the team designated Lou Trivino for assignment.

Harrison had high expectations heading into spring training, being tipped as a strong contender for the Giants' fifth rotation spot. However, due to a loss in weight from illness and struggling hitters taking advantage, he didn't secure the spot. That was then. Now, Harrison's fastball has returned, reaching 97 miles per hour, and his control looks improved. In 26 innings for Triple-A Sacramento this season, Harrison has 38 strikeouts and just eight walks.

Perhaps his standout performance on Wednesday sealed the deal. In five innings against Reno, Harrison struck out seven batters without issue and allowed only one run.

General Manager Zach Minasian welcomed the pressure from Harrison, who spent the entirety of last season with the Giants. He's eager to return to the big stage. Landen Roupp, who claimed the rotation spot initially, would have pitched on Monday at Wrigley Field, but his recent performance has been less impressive. Roupp has surrendered nine runs in his last two outings and walked six batters.

Meanwhile, Lou Trivino has been struggling in his first season with the Giants. He's conceded eight earned runs in 12 1/3 innings, his first involvement in the majors since 2022 due to recovering from Tommy John surgery.
