Seyi Tinubu's Governorship Discussion Dismissed by ADC: No Business Involvement
In a recent development, George Ashiru, the Chairman of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), has announced that the opposition party is focused on putting forward an alternative governorship candidate for the upcoming election in Lagos State.
George Ashiru made these statements, emphasizing that the ADC is not concerned with the internal politics of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) or Seyi Tinubu's political ambitions. Seyi Tinubu, rumored to be planning to contest the governorship election, is the son of Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State.
Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, has stated that Seyi Tinubu is qualified to contest any political office in Nigeria, including the governorship of Lagos State. However, it's important to note that these comments were made in a different context, and the ADC has not mentioned Bola Tinubu or Seyi Tinubu in this regard.
The ADC's focus, according to George Ashiru, is on selecting a candidate that people can associate with. The party's governorship candidate is not based on inheritance or lineage but on representing the people of Lagos State. The ADC aims to offer a credible alternative to Lagosians, providing a fresh perspective in the political landscape.
The ADC is currently discussing its own plan to bring forth a democratically elected governorship candidate. Daniel Bwala has suggested that Seyi Tinubu could even challenge his father in a future election, but these comments were not made in the context of the ADC's plans.
It's worth noting that the ADC has not been following the ruling APC's candidacy process. Seyi Tinubu last announced his political candidacy for the Lagos State governorship election in early 2023.
As the election approaches, the political landscape in Lagos State continues to evolve, with the ADC offering a fresh and viable alternative to voters. The party's focus remains on selecting a representative of the people who can deliver on the promises of good governance and development.
