Sexual harassment allegations result in a one-year ban for Edgar Carballo Gonzalez

Following a complaint made by another athlete through the UCI's confidential reporting platform, UCI SpeakUp, Edgar Carballo Gonzalez, a Spanish national champion in downhill and enduro mountain biking, has been suspended from all cycling-related activities for one year. The suspension was handed down by the UCI's Ethics Commission due to allegations of sexual harassment.

The incident occurred at a UCI International Calendar event, with the complainant reporting unwanted sexual advances and inappropriate physical contact by Carballo Gonzalez. The Ethics Commission found that his actions violated sections of the Code of Ethics, specifically Article 6.4 (Protection of physical and mental integrity) and Article 2.3 (Sexual harassment).

The suspension is effective immediately and subject to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The UCI emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all participants in the sport, encouraging anyone with safeguarding concerns to report them through the UCI SpeakUp platform.

In response to the suspension, Mondraker Bicycle Company, Carballo Gonzalez's sponsor, has suspended its relationship with him. The company, which believes in protecting the integrity of cycling and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all riders, stated that further action may be taken pending subsequent investigations or findings.

The UCI confirmed the suspension in a press release on Monday, and the tweet announcing the decision was posted by Mondraker Bicycle Company on August 11, 2025. The tweet contained a picture related to the UCI's decision.
