Sevilla FC Strengthens Goalkeeping Department with Odysseas Vlachodimos

Sevilla FC has bolstered its goalkeeping department with the arrival of Odysseas Vlachodimos on a season-long loan from Newcastle United. The 31-year-old Greek shot-stopper, who boasts extensive experience in the Champions League, joins the Spanish club in a bid to rejuvenate his career and challenge Orjan Nyland for the starting position.

Vlachodimos, who has donned the jerseys of VfB Stuttgart, Panathinaikos FC, SL Benfica, Nottingham Forest, and Newcastle United, brings a wealth of experience to the Sevillian capital. With 48 caps for Greece and 225 appearances for Benfica under his belt, Vlachodimos is poised to make an immediate impact at Sevilla.

The loan deal, which does not include an option to buy, was announced as Sevilla's third signing of the summer 2025. Newcastle United will assume a generous percentage of Vlachodimos' salary during his time at Sevilla.

Sevilla FC's Sporting Director, Monchi, expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, "Odysseas is a goalkeeper with a proven track record, and we believe he will bring stability and experience to our squad."

Meanwhile, Antonio Cordon, another new arrival at Sevilla, aims to make the starting position his own. The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who joined Newcastle last summer for an estimated €23 million, barely received minutes at the English club. Cordon's arrival at Sevilla is intended to promote the exit of Álvaro Fernández.

The incorporation of both Vlachodimos and Cordon marks a significant shift in Sevilla's goalkeeping strategy. For the past few months, Orjan Nyland has not had a rival to beat for the starting position. With the arrival of these two experienced goalkeepers, the competition for the number one spot is set to heat up.

As the summer transfer window draws to a close, both Vlachodimos and Cordon are eager to make their mark at Sevilla FC. The upcoming season promises to be an exciting one for the Spanish club, as they aim to challenge for honours with their strengthened goalkeeping department.
