Severe Weather Warning: India Meteorological Department (IMD) Warns of Intense Rainfall Across Himachal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Jammu; Alerts Also Issued for Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued detailed weather forecasts and alerts for various regions in India from July 5 to July 8, 2025, with a focus on heavy rainfall and related risks.

North and Northwest India -------------------------

Residents in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are advised to remain vigilant as isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast from July 4 to 9, with very heavy rainfall especially during July 5 to 7. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, East Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh are also expected to experience heavy rainfall, with very heavy rainfall predicted on July 6 and 7. Jammu is expected to experience rainfall during July 5 to 8. Delhi-NCR, while not under a warning for July 4, has been issued a yellow alert for July 5, forecasting partly cloudy skies with light rain, thunderstorms, and temperatures between 36–38°C (max) and 26–28°C (min).

Western India -------------

Madhya Maharashtra (Ghat areas) is at risk of extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) at isolated places on July 6 and 7. The Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 4 to 9, with risks of flooding in coastal and low-lying areas. Mumbai and Ahmedabad are predicted to experience moderate to heavy rain, with localized urban flooding possible.

East and Central India -----------------------

Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Dehradun and surrounding areas are forecast to receive isolated heavy rainfall during July 4 to 9, with very heavy rainfall over East Madhya Pradesh in early July. Northeast India is expected to experience heavy rains, with isolated extremely heavy falls over Meghalaya on July 6. However, some parts of northeast and eastern India might receive below-average rainfall overall.

South India -----------

Tamil Nadu, Kerala & Mahe, and coastal Karnataka are expected to experience heavy rainfall, with potential flooding in low-lying areas in Kerala & Mahe on the 5th, 9th, and 10th of July.

Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience very to extremely heavy rainfall from the 5th to the 8th of July, with a red alert on the 6th. Uttarakhand is expected to experience very heavy showers from the 5th to the 8th of July, with a flash flood risk in hilly areas.

Jammu is expected to experience very heavy rain on the 6th of July, with a potential disruption to traffic and landslide risk.
