Severe Weather Warning: IMD Warns of Intense Rainfall in Himachal, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and Punjab, with Red Alerts Being Issued in Certain Regions

India is bracing for a period of intense monsoon rains over the next few days, as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued several weather alerts and rainfall forecasts for various regions.

From July 5 to 8, 2025, multiple states across the country are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, with a particular focus on the northern, central, western, and northeastern regions.

**Northwest India**

In Himachal Pradesh, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast on July 5-7, with a red alert issued for some districts and isolated extremely heavy rainfall predicted on July 6. Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu & Kashmir are also expected to receive very heavy rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall extending from July 5 to 8.

**Delhi-NCR**

The national capital region (Delhi-NCR) has been issued a yellow alert for July 5 and 6, with partly cloudy skies, light rain, thunderstorms, and lightning expected. Temperatures will range between 26-38°C, and while the risk of severe weather is low, thunderstorms will peak during this time, providing relief from the summer heat.

**Western and Central India**

Madhya Maharashtra is likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) at isolated places on July 6 and 7. Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and parts of Karnataka are forecast to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 5 to 10.

**Northeast and Eastern India**

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, and parts of Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka from July 4 onwards.

**Other Alerts**

Fishermen have been advised to avoid certain areas from July 5 to 9 due to adverse weather. Residents are also advised to remain vigilant, avoid water-logged areas, and follow IMD advisories. Possible flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging are expected in low-lying and vulnerable areas with heavy to very heavy rainfall.

- Coastal Karnataka may witness very heavy rainfall on the 5th and 6th of July. - East Madhya Pradesh is expected to witness extremely heavy rainfall. - Tamil Nadu is expected to experience heavy rain on the 5th of July, with lightning and thunderstorms. - Jharkhand is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from the 5th to the 7th of July, with a particular focus on the 6th. - The Konkan, Goa, and Western Ghats of Maharashtra are on high alert as they may receive extremely heavy rainfall on the 6th and 7th of July. - Marathwada is expected to experience heavy showers on the 6th and 7th of July. - Chhattisgarh is likely to experience very heavy rainfall from the 5th to the 8th of July. - Uttar Pradesh (East and West) is expected to experience heavy rain from the 5th to the 10th of July, with gusty winds up to 40 kmph. - Punjab and Haryana are expected to experience heavy rain on the 6th and 7th of July, with isolated thunder and lightning. - Kerala and Mahe are expected to experience heavy rain on the 5th, 9th, and 10th of July, with a flooding risk in low-lying areas. - Madhya Pradesh is expected to experience very heavy rainfall on the 5th, the 8th-10th of July. - Gangetic West Bengal is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on the 5th and 6th of July.

This active phase of the monsoon is vital for agriculture but also demands precautionary measures to mitigate flood and landslide risks. Northeast India, particularly Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, is forecast to experience very heavy rainfall in the coming days. Northwest India, particularly Himachal Pradesh, is expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall on the 6th of July. Rajasthan (East and West) is expected to experience heavy rain on the 5th-6th and 8th-10th of July, with dust storms possible initially.
