India Weather Update: Widespread Heavy Rainfall Expected from August 14-19

India is bracing for a week of dynamic and regionally varied weather conditions, as the active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations set to influence the country's rainfall patterns.

Northwest India (Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh) will experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall, especially from 21st to 26th August, with intermittent thunderstorm and lightning activity. East Rajasthan is forecast to have isolated very heavy showers from 21st to 24th August, while other states will see scattered heavy rainfall during this period.

In the northwestern states, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected from August 14-18. The foothills and hilly regions can expect thunderstorms and isolated very heavy rains.

Northeast India (Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh) will witness isolated heavy rainfall continuing for about five days, with very heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Assam, and Meghalaya on 21st and 22nd August. Frequent thunderstorms and lightning are also expected.

West India, especially Gujarat and adjoining regions, will have heavy to very heavy rainfall continuing until 23rd August, followed by another fresh spell from 25th August onward. This is due to the influence of cyclonic circulations near Gujarat and an offshore trough along the Gujarat-Maharashtra coast.

Central and Eastern India will see moderate to heavy showers, influenced by cyclonic circulations. N. Interior Karnataka, West Madhya Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam will experience heavy rainfall from August 14-19.

Rayalaseema, Bihar, Telangana, and Odisha will see very heavy rainfall on specific days within the August 14-19 period. Delhi-NCR will remain mostly cloudy with intermittent showers on August 14-16, with temperatures staying near or below normal.

Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, and Saurashtra & Kutch will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 14-19, August 17-19, and August 17-19, respectively.

Kerala will see heavy rainfall on August 14-15, while Arunachal Pradesh will experience heavy rainfall from August 14-16.

The distribution of rainfall results from an active monsoon trough roughly along 24°N latitude combined with multiple upper-air cyclonic circulations over northwest Madhya Pradesh, northwest Bay of Bengal, northeast Assam, and western coastal regions. A potential low-pressure area is forming around 25th August near north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal coast, further contributing to the rainfall activity.

While this news article provides an overview of the expected weather conditions, it is essential to stay updated with local weather forecasts and advisories for the most accurate and personalised information.

In light of the active monsoon trough and multiple cyclonic circulations, politics and general news may revolve around preparations and potential crises related to the weather conditions in various regions of India. For instance, the heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected in the northwestern states from August 14-18 could lead to political debate regarding disaster management and relief efforts.

Similarly, weather-forecasting agencies and meteorological departments are likely to be in the spotlight as they provide updates on the rainfall patterns in different parts of the country, such as the isolated heavy rainfall predicted in Northeast India from August 21st to 22nd or the heavy rainfall expected in West India until August 23rd.
