Severe weather alert: South's extreme south is forecasted for thunderstorms and heavy downpours

Germany is currently experiencing a period of weather uncertainty, with significant variations expected in the coming days. According to the German Weather Service (DWD) based in Offenbach, a deep low-pressure system is steering moist air towards the southwest and south of Germany.

In the southwest, residents can expect longer periods of sunshine and dry weather on Saturday. However, temperatures are expected to rise after Sunday, reaching locally up to around 30 to 35 degrees Celsius with mostly sunny weather and little rain expected. A change is expected midweek, with the possibility of thunderstorms and a subsequent temperature drop due to polar air pushing south over the Alps.

On the contrary, the far south of Germany is bracing for a significant amount of rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Heavy rain is expected at the Alps on Thursday during the day, and severe weather amounts can be expected in some areas of southern Bavaria. This rain is expected to shift to southern Bavaria on Thursday.

The rest of the country will experience more calm weather on Friday. It will be partly sunny, with isolated short showers possible along the coast. In the south and southwest, the weather will be partly sunny and cloudy, with isolated showers at the Alps. From the evening onwards, there could be localized heavy thunderstorms in South Baden and around Lake Constance.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rise next week, according to meteorologist Reinartz. However, the sky will be variable on Saturday, with occasional showers and local short thunderstorms, especially in the northeast. The rain will gradually decrease overnight into Friday.

It's important to note that the potential for flooding and overflowing of streams and smaller rivers exists in the areas mentioned. Residents are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions.

In summary, while much of Germany is experiencing calm weather, certain localized areas are expected to face severe weather conditions, particularly in the south and southwest. It's advised to stay updated and prepared for these weather changes.
