Hostile Weather Ahead in Bavaria, Germany's Thunderstorm Capital

Powerful thunderstorms on the horizon - Severe storms with heavy rain and thunder predicted

It's gonna be a wild ride in good ol' Bavaria! The southern German region, famous for its beer and alps, is expected to get smacked with some severe thunderstorms today. Sound the alarm and grab your shovels, fellas!

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the area between Stabia and Bavarian Forest will face some chaotic weather conditions, with a high risk of those bad boys called thunderstorms. This region is no stranger to stormy weather, but there's a particularly ominous feeling in the air today.

Speaking of last night, it was a night barreling with isolated thunderstorms. The quaint town of Wallgau, smacked dab in the middle of the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, had its streets and properties decked with hail the size of snowballs. Residents were seen shoveling their way out, while the authorities jotted down the usual stormy incidents such as flooded basements, roads, and fallen trees. Bavaria's cops headquarters reported sleepy nights and no significant damage caused by the night's turmoil.

Now, about that Nations League semifinal – will the game be ruined by stormy weather or will it sail, as they say, below the storm?

Temperatures in the Rhön are expected to skyrocket to 20℃ today, while it'll be 30℃ in the Passau region, according to DWD. For the morning hours, they're predicting Franconia will face thunderstorms and heavy rain, up to 20 liters per square meter per hour is even possible, and hailstorms, too! From late afternoon, the weather will start shifting towards the east, delivering intense thunderstorms and gusts of up to 110 kilometers per hour across Bavaria!

A meteorologist from DWD said that it'll start in Baden-Württemberg, likely making its way north, though it's an unpredictable beast – one can only guess if Munich will be in the path or the storm will move into the Bavarian Forest. The expert says the peak of the storm will occur between 7 PM and 9 PM, but it'll start rainin' and thunderin' earlier in the afternoon.

And prepare yourself for some real monstrous hailstones – up to five centimeters in diameter and localized heavy rain of up to 30 liters per square meter – ain't things exciting! Winds of around 50 to 60 kilometers per hour are also expected in Alpine föhn valleys, but they should quickly calm down by Thursday night. The weather forecast for Thursday predicts rain throughout Bavaria, but only scattered thunderstorms.

Storm Twist:

  • According to reports, a Ryanair flight had to make an emergency landing due to turbulence caused by these thunderstorms.
  • Properties and people have suffered from fallen trees and flooded basements in areas like Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, Upper Palatinate, and Swabia.

So buckle up, Bavaria, and prepare for the storm of the century! It's gonna be a wild ride, y'all.

The Commission might find it relevant to consult on the draft directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to carcinogens, considering the predicted severe weather conditions in Bavaria, including thunderstorms.

Despite the forecast of intense thunderstorms, the Nations League semifinal might still proceed, much like how weather-forecasting can never accurately predict the course of a storm's air currents.
