Brace Yourself for Intense Thunderstorms! 🌪️🌨️
Intense Storms Forecasted - Severe storms with heavy rain and thunder predicted
Get ready for some wild weather ahead! Severe thunderstorms packing hail, powerful winds, and torrential rain are set to hit the picturesque Free State region today.
According to the German Weather Service (DWD), there's a heightened risk of these brutal storms between Swabia and the Bavarian Forest. While we went through isolated storms in the area last night, many places had to battle with hail storms that required snow shovels for cleanup. Despite the usual storm chaos - flooded roads, cellars, and fallen trees - no significant incidents or damage were reported as per the local authorities.
As temperatures soar to 20°C in the Rhön and 30°C in the Passau region today, expect some heavy storms to roll through Franconia with up to 20 liters of rainfall per square meter per hour and the chance of hail. From the afternoon onwards, these ferocious thunderstorms will pick up speed, whipping up gusts of up to 130 kilometers per hour, starting first in Baden-Württemberg before potentially passing through Munich and heading towards the Bavarian Forest.
A DWD expert reveals, "The storm will move from Baden-Württemberg to the north, possibly passing Munich, and then heading towards the Bavarian Forest. However, we're still uncertain about the exact course, especially regarding the UEFA Nations League semi-final between Germany and Portugal in Munich's Allianz Arena later tonight." With the peak storm activity between 7 pm and 9 pm, let's keep our fingers crossed that the match will make it through unscathed!
Perilous hailstones might also be on the horizon! The DWD predicts hailstones with a diameter of up to five centimeters, with a minuscule chance of hail reaching ten centimeters. Additionally, there is potential for localized heavy rain of up to 30 liters per square meter and wind gusts in the Alpine foothills, nording off rapidly as the night wanes.
Give tomorrow a miss in Bavaria, as rain will persist through most of the day, with just scattered thunderstorms here and there. Safe and sound!

Fun Fact: It's estimated that the largest-ever hailstone ever recorded weighed 1.4 pounds and was found in Gopperthorn, Vivian West Virginia, USA in 1947[1]. Keep your fingers crossed though, as five-centimeter hailstones might be too much for our cars and rooftops to handle! 😱
Prepare for severe thunderstorms in Bavaria, as the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts intense thunderstorms with gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain, particularly between 7 pm and 9 pm. Given the recent weather-forecasting, the Commission has also been consulted on the draft budget for the period 2000-06.
