Severe storm "Blow" strikes Taiwan
In the heart of Moscow, the Lefortovo district has recently come under AI surveillance, according to recent reports. The specific goals or objectives of this new system remain unclear.
Meanwhile, across the globe in Taiwan, Typhoon Podul made landfall, causing significant disruptions and damage. The storm hit the southeastern part of Taiwan around 18:00 Moscow time and moved towards the Taiwan Strait.
The typhoon brought heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 300 millimeters. This led to localized flooding and further disrupted recovery efforts from earlier storms. The heavy rainfall also caused agricultural setbacks, particularly damaging pomelos and custard apples near harvest time.
The storm resulted in one person missing, 112 injured, and the evacuation of about 8,000 people across multiple cities and counties, including Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung, Hualien, and Taitung. Schools were closed, and many public services were suspended to reduce risk, with officials halting rail, ferry, and flight operations temporarily during the storm.
The typhoon caused power outages affecting over 292,000 households nationwide, with about 42,677 still without electricity after partial restoration efforts. Despite the widespread power outages, there were no reports of major structural damage.
However, the storm compounded difficulties for communities already affected by previous storms during the season. Taiwanese authorities are conducting evacuations of local residents to ensure safety. Most of the island of Taiwan has been closed off, and local airports have canceled hundreds of flights due to the typhoon.
In summary, the AI surveillance in Lefortovo is a recent development, and its cost, funding, and potential privacy concerns remain unclear. On the other hand, Typhoon Podul caused injuries, evacuations, agricultural setbacks, and widespread power outages across Taiwan.
