Severe Rainfall Warnings Issued for Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Kerala, and Bihar; Slight Shower Predictions in Delhi-NCR

Weather Forecast for August 6-11 Across India

India is bracing for a series of heavy rainfall events over the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Here's a breakdown of the forecast for various regions:

Uttarakhand

Heavy rainfall is expected on August 6, with widespread rains due to active monsoon conditions. Northern districts may experience persistent showers with moderate to very heavy rain episodes throughout August 6-11. The risk of flooding and landslides exists due to intense rainfall and the region's mountainous terrain.

Himachal Pradesh

Light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places from August 6 through 9. Isolated very heavy rain spells are possible on August 6 and 7. Temperatures are expected to drop gradually by 2–4°C after August 7, with stable minimum temperatures during the period.

Kerala

Northern Kerala is forecasted to experience extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) on August 6. Southern India overall will receive intense rainfall driven by upper air circulations and a trough. Moderate to heavy showers are likely to continue throughout this period, especially in the Ghat areas.

Assam and Northeast India

Active monsoon conditions with continuous showers are expected from August 6-11. Very heavy rain is forecast for Arunachal Pradesh from August 7 to 11. Isolated very heavy rain is expected in Assam and Meghalaya during August 7-11, with thunderstorms and light/moderate rain across the entire northeast region in this timeframe.

North India (including Delhi-NCR)

North India may see light showers around August 6, but mostly dry or cloudy conditions are expected afterward.

Other Regions

  • Marathwada in Maharashtra is expected to have heavy rain on Aug 6-7.
  • Coastal AP and Telangana are expected to have isolated heavy rain.
  • Tamil Nadu is predicted to have very heavy rain.
  • Coastal Karnataka is forecasted to have very heavy rain.

  • The plains of Northwest India, including NCR, are expected to have light/moderate rain with thunderstorms for the next seven days.
  • Punjab, Haryana, and Jammu-Kashmir are predicted to have isolated heavy rainfall on specific days.
  • Northwestern India, including Uttarakhand and West Uttar Pradesh, is predicted to experience extremely heavy rainfall.
  • Nagaland is forecasted to have very heavy rain.
  • Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha are forecasted to have heavy rain from Aug 6-8.
  • Konkan and Goa are forecasted to have heavy rain on Aug 7-8.
  • Lakshadweep is forecasted to have isolated heavy rain.
  • The Ghat regions of Tamil Nadu are expected to have extremely heavy rainfall.
  • Himachal Pradesh is forecasted to have isolated heavy rainfall.
  • Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to have very heavy rain on Aug 7 and 11.

The IMD is keeping a close watch on the ongoing weather changes to keep everyone safe. The combination of steady moisture inflow and upper-level weather systems is driving these rainfall patterns across these regions, with localized flood risk especially in mountainous areas due to intense precipitation and climate change impacts increasing extreme rainfall events.
