Severe rainfall anticipated in Thailand until May 27; Flood warnings declared due to predicted downpours
Forecasting Heavy to Very Heavy Rainfall Across Thailand from May 23 to 27
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a weather warning, predicting heavy rainfall across the country from Friday to Tuesday. This rainfall is attributed to the strengthening southwest monsoon and a monsoon trough that will lie across upper Thailand and the upper South during this period.
Residents in affected areas are advised to exercise caution due to the potential for heavy to very heavy rainfall and water accumulation. This could lead to flash floods, overflows, and landslides, particularly in areas near waterways, foothills, and low-lying regions. Farmers are urged to improve drainage systems in their fields to help mitigate potential impacts on crops and livestock.
In the South, stronger winds are expected to generate waves up to 2 meters high in the upper Andaman Sea, and over 2 meters during thunderstorms. Mariners are urged to navigate cautiously and avoid thunderstorm areas, while small boats should remain ashore throughout the period.
