Heavy Rainfall Forecast Across Multiple Regions in India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh weather update, providing a detailed forecast for various regions in India for the coming days.

On July 30, widespread rainfall is expected across India. South Peninsular India, including Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, will experience light to moderate rainfall. In contrast, northeast and adjoining east India, including Assam and Meghalaya, will continue to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
August 1 and August 2, 2025
- South Peninsular India: Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe during August 2-6. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in Kerala, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Lakshadweep. Strong surface winds (40-50 kmph) are expected over this region during the next 5 days, including August 1 and 2.
- Northeast and adjoining East India: Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls specifically over Assam and Meghalaya on August 2. Light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, continuing till August 5.
- West India: Light to moderate rainfall is forecasted at many/some places during the next 6-7 days, including the forecast dates.
- Delhi/NCR: Generally cloudy skies are expected on August 1 and 2. Very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms/lightning is predicted both days. Temperatures are expected to range from 33-35°C max and 23-26°C min. Winds vary with predominant surface winds from northeast in the mornings switching to southwest and southeast later in the day.

In summary, south Peninsular India can expect continuing rainfall with isolated heavy spells around August 2, northeast India will see intense rainfall particularly on August 2, and Delhi/NCR will have light scattered rain and thunderstorms on August 1-2 with mild temperatures.
August Forecast
The overall forecast for August indicates that most of India will experience near normal to above normal rainfall over the month, with some regions in northeast and east India potentially seeing below-normal precipitation. However, the cumulative rainfall for August-September is predicted to be above normal at more than 106% of the long-period average.
