TSG 1899 Hoffenheim Faces €147,000 Fine for Fan Misconduct
In a ruling by the Sports Court of the German Football Association (DFB), Bundesliga club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim has been penalized for fan misconduct during three matches. The fine totals €147,000, with up to €48,600 of the amount allocated for safety and violence prevention measures.
The first incident occurred prior to the match against 1. FC Heidenheim on March 9, 2025, where fans ignited numerous pyrotechnics from at least eight locations, causing the game to begin more than one minute late. This indiscretion led to a fine of €100,000.
Another infraction took place before the club's game against VfB Stuttgart, resulting in a fine of €36,000. The third incident involved the FSV Mainz 05 match, where fans engaged in another unacceptable behavior, leading to a fine of €11,000.
The total fine of €147,000 includes provisions for the club to utilize up to €48,600 for safety and violence prevention measures. The club now faces the responsibility of addressing this issue to ensure a safer and more sportsmanlike environment for all future games.
The Commission has also been informed of the progress of the negotiations regarding the implementation of stricter safety and violence prevention measures within TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, considering the recent fines issued for fan misconduct in European football leagues. In this context, the club's management might consider investing in Education programs about football ethics and code of conduct for supporters to promote a more sportsmanlike atmosphere in European sports.
