In Erfurt, a serious bicycle accident occurred on Wachsenburgring at 9 PM on Wednesday. The accident involved a 50-year-old mountain biker who collided with a car. The mountain biker was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and had to be taken to the hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, the biker sustained approximately 200 Euros in damage to the mountain bike.

In a separate incident, overnight on Wednesday, approximately 1,000 liters of fuel were stolen from a mobile fuel station in the Erfurt neighborhood of Gispersleben. The perpetrators scaled a construction fence, broke into the station, and made off with the stolen fuel. The investigation for this particularly serious case of theft has been initiated, and the police remind the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The police would like to express their gratitude to the public and the media for their support in the search for a missing 14-year-old girl from Erfurt, who was found safe and sound at a friend's house on Thursday morning.

It is worth noting that, contrary to some beliefs, bicycle helmets are not legally required in Erfurt, Germany. While Germany has strict safety standards for motorcycle helmets, there is no nationwide mandatory helmet law for regular bicycle riders, including in Erfurt. However, the police strongly recommend the use of bicycle helmets to prevent severe head injuries in case of a fall.

The German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) and Vehicle Equipment Regulations (StVZO) do not mandate the use of bicycle helmets for cyclists of any age or in any location, including Erfurt. Although some local authorities or private cycling associations may promote helmet use, no local law in Erfurt obligates cyclists to wear helmets.

In light of this information, it is advisable for cyclists to use bicycle helmets at all times, even on short trips, to reduce the risk of injury. The stolen fuel is estimated to be worth around 6,000 Euros, and the police are urging anyone with information regarding the fuel theft to come forward.
